It has been awhile since I have read a "horror" book but this short story did nothing but impress me. I was instantly hooked while reading the first two pages just by the way the characters talked. It felt like it is based in the days of the Wild West but I asked the author in what time period and he told me its more in the 80's but still out in the old west. If that makes sense.I really enjoyed all the characters in the story and how Daniel was able to write them all so well that made it real easy to imagine them and the setting. I felt as if I was there experiencing the terror that comes upon this group of friends. It had a wonderful similarity for me to Stephen King's Dreamcatcher, (*spoiler for those who haven't read Dreamcatcher*),it didn't have to do with aliens. It was more the fact that the main character, Cooper, and his closest friends have to face a terrible evil together.
It kept me turning the pages to see what happens next and it did make me jump at one part in the story. If you are looking for a quick and scary read, definitely pick up this book. You won't be disappointed.

The incredible thing about this story is just how mature the writing is. It reads like the work of a seasoned pro. I'd love to see more from this world. I'm sure there's a novel in there somewhere. Maybe more a whole series.
It's pretty obvious from this short story alone, that Daniel Willcocks is going to be a big name in the future. Jump aboard now and be one of the early fans.
